Biography

The writer Sema Kaygusuz was born in Samsun in 1972. She studied communications at Gazi University in Ankara until 1994 and began to publish short stories in various magazines in the early 1990s. Her first short story collection, “Ortadan, Yarisindan”, was published in 1997, and was followed in 2006 by her debut novel, “Yere Düsen Dualar”. Kaygusuz was the co-scriptwriter of Yesim Ustaoglu’s award-winning feature film “Pandora’s Box” (2008). The prizes with which she has been honored include the Yasar Nabi Nayir Youth Literature Award (1995) and the Cevdet Kudret Literature Award (2000). In 2008 she participated as a “city writer” in the Turkish-German literary exchange project “Yakin Bakis” in Berlin, where she is currently living as a DAAD fellowship recipient.
