Born in 1978 in Lörrach in the German federal state of Baden-Württemberg. After receiving his high school diploma he worked in a psychiatric clinic and an old-age home in southern France. From 1998 to 2002 he studied at the universities of Tübingen, Passau and Aix-en-Provence, receiving an M.A. degree in 2003 (German and French literature, contemporary history, cultural event management). Studied for one semester at the German Creative Writing Program of the University of Leipzig. Internships at various media. His novels have received numerous honors, including the Brüder Grimm Preis and the Heinrich Heine Scholarship. He currently lives in Berlin.
