Biography

Born in 1948, Nikolai Stoyanov studied Oriental Studies and Bulgarian Philology at St. Kliment Ohridski University in Sofia. He is the author of numerous novels, short stories, essays, and scripts for television and radio, and his works have been translated into many languages. In addition, Stoyanov acts as the president of the Biblioteka 48 publishing group, as editor-in-chief of the Bulgarian edition of “Le Monde Diplomatique”, and as the president of the Balkanika Foundation, established by publishing companies from seven Balkan countries in order to support and promote artists from the Balkans. Nikolai Stoyanov has won several prizes, including the Ivan Vazov Award, Bulgaria’s most prestigious literary award.
