Biography

The novelist and short story writer Buket Uzuner was born in Ankara in 1955. After studying biology and ecology at Hacettepe University in Ankara, the University of Bergen in Norway, and the University of Michigan in the U.S., she worked as a lecturer and researcher at various international universities. Her short stories have been published in periodicals such as “Yarin”, “Olusum”, “Varlik”, “Cönk”, “Gergedan” and “Argos”. To date, her novels have been translated into seven languages. Buket Uzuner has lived and traveled throughout the Sahara, North America and Europe, and lives today in Istanbul.
