Artists in Residence in New England

Marica Bodrožić reads prose and poems from her two latest books, the novel Das Gedächtnis der Libellen (2010) and the collection of poems Quittenstunden (2011).
Marica Bodrožić was born in 1973 in Zadvarje, in present-day Croatia. She came to Germany in 1983, where she studied cultural anthropology, psychoanalysis and Slavonic studies. She published her first literary works (prose, essays, poetry) in newspapers and magazines. For her books, she won many literary prizes and grants, among them the Förderungspreis für Literatur, awarded by the Akademie der Künste in Berlin. Bodrožić lives in Berlin as a freelance writer and film director. Her first film, Das Herzgemälde der Erinnerung. Eine Reise durch mein Kroatien (i.e., The Heart Painting of Remembrance. A Journey through My Croatia), was broadcast on German television in 2007.
Her work is a declaration of love for the German language: Marica Bodrožić has made a name for herself with her short stories, novels and poems. She is noted for her essays describing the difficulties of literary writing in German as a foreign language.
This spring, Marica Bodrožić is a Max Kade Distinguished Visiting Professor at Dartmouth College where she teaches contemporary German Literature and Poetry.
