Five characters stand on a floating platform, keeping it in perfect balance with their own weight. When they pull a mysterious, desirable coffer into the platform, they start to feel possessiveness, egoism and envy, and the balance is endangered.

Wolfgang und Christoph Lauenstein,

born 1962, directors and screenwriters, twin brothers, graduated high school in 1982 and have worked in stop-motion animation since 1980. They studied animated film from 1984 to 1990 – Wolfgang Lauenstein at the Hochschule für Bildende Künste Hamburg with Prof. Franz Winzentsen, Christoph Lauenstein at the Gesamthochschule Kassel with Prof. Paul Driessen. They founded LAUENSTEIN & LAUENSTEIN Trickfilmproduktion GbR in Hamburg in 1990. The studio specializes in stop-motion animation, and has produced countless animated ad spots for international clients.
Awards: German Film Prize 1989: silver ribbon for short film; 1990 Academy Awards: Oscar for best animated short film. In 2010, ASIFA (Association Internationale du film d’Animation) chose Balance as one of the 50 best animated films of the last 50 years (number 16).
