Do you want to learn German, but are unable to come to the Goethe-Institut for a class? No problem – sign up for one of our online courses!

Taking a Goethe-Institut online course enables you to learn German at your own pace. Whether you take a group-course or an individual online course, you learn on your own, but you are not alone! A teacher who speaks your native language and is committed to helping you learn will answer your questions, correct your homework, and be there for you throughout the duration of your course.

Our “E-Learning Deutsch” course uses everyday situations as a basis to teach a foreign language. You will learn with a practical, interactive program that trains your German skills in a variety of ways. We offer three different courses:

Make it the perfect combination: You can enhance your online learning program by combining it with individual instruction at your local Goethe-Institut to practice your speaking skills. These lessons can be arranged at a time that is convenient for you.

    Online Group Course for Beginners (A1)

    The Goethe-Institut is offering the next online course group for beginners from the USA and Canada from February 18 - June 15, 2013.

    Price: US $ 555
    Workload: approx. 110 hours to cover the entire A1 course level
    Class size: 8 up to a maximum of 15 students

    Our “Online Group Course A1” uses real life situations to provide an authentic context in which to learn the German language.

    The goal of the program is to develop the following essential skills needed to communicate: oral and written comprehension, oral and written expression, vocabulary, and grammar.

    The learning program consists of
    • exercises that you complete on your own at your own pace and
    • exercises in which you work together with the other course participants in your group.
    The program seeks to familiarize you with the sounds specific to the German language by using recordings made by native speakers. Navigating the program is easy with the use of the latest speech recognition technology.

    You will also regularly work on exercises together with other course participants and meet with your tutors and the other course participants in the virtual classroom to discuss the exercise and practice your communication skills.

    The virtual classroom sessions have been scheduled for:

    • Saturday, February 23, 8:30 am (PST) = 10:30 am (CST) = 11:30 am (EST),
    • Saturday, March 30, 8:30 am (PST) = 10:30 am (CST) = 11:30 am (EST) and
    • Saturday, April 20, 8:30 am (PST) = 10:30 am (CST) = 11:30 am (EST).

    As you progress through the course, you will be supported by two tutors who will provide you with regular feedback about your work and be able to offer you additional exercises to enhance your learning progress.

    The learning program uses Windows and will not run on a Mac.

      Exam Preparation Course C1

      Do you want to take the Goethe-Zertifikat C1? Would you like to practice and reinforce your C1 German language skills before the exam? With our online group course for US and Canadian students, you can get prepared in one month.

      Course Dates: June 10 - July 8, 2013
      Price: US $ 400
      Registration Deadline: May 31, 2013
      Workload: 10 hours per week (plus optional extra time working through additional materials)
      Class size: 8 up to a maximum of 15 students

      This course is designed to help you expand your knowledge of German in the following areas: written expression, oral expression, listening comprehension and reading comprehension.

      The course consists of sessions in the virtual classroom as well as completing course work on your own.

      You will use the Goethe-Institut’s learning platform to reinforce your knowledge of German by working through exercises together with other classmates. The main course elements consist of training for specific parts of the exam as well as working through sample copies in a simulated exam situation.

      Your virtual classroom includes various communication possibilities (chat room, wiki, etc.). By communicating with others in your group, you will be exposed to different ways of completing the parts of the exam, which will assist you in your overall exam preparation.

      Your learning experience will be supported by a qualified tutor.

      Prerequisite for this class is a working knowledge of German at the
      C 1 level.

      This course requires a computer that uses Windows (no Mac's!).
