The TOP teaching materials support traditional social studies curriculum topics, provide the teacher with ready-to-use lesson plans, and provide students with practice related to social studies skills in the context of a comparative United States to Germany approach. They model effective teaching strategies as well as social studies content and process skills. There are four instructional kits. Each kit contains lesson plans which include instructional objectives, teacher resources, student handouts, and worksheets (including maps, statistical information, readings, and other data), as well as color transparencies to facilitate instruction. The color transparencies of all four kits are available in downloadable PowerPoint format. In addition, the entire "Germany in Europe" and "Germany Today" kits are available online. The kits are designed so that the teacher may either (a) integrate individual lessons into the existing curriculum at appropriate places, or (b) use them as a complete stand-alone unit. In either case, the lessons should be adjusted by teachers to meet the needs, interests, and performance levels of students in their classrooms. Lessons range from activities designed for individual students to activities requiring student group collaboration. These kits, as well as the maps, and DVD, are available free-of-charge to in-service workshop leaders. |
