The highest award: Großes Deutsches Sprachdiplom (GDS).

Beginning 01.01.2012 the Goethe-Zertifikat C2: Großes Deutsches Sprachdiplom will replace the Große Deutsche Sprachdiplom (GDS).

It replaces the three exams currently in use on the C2 level: ZOP, the Kleines Deutsches Sprachdiplom (KDS) and the Großes Deutsches Sprachdiplom (GDS).

The new exam will be supervised and organized onsite by the exam center: they make the exam appointments.

The Große Deutsche Sprachdiplom (GDS) will be administered for the last time in November 2011. Repetition of portions of this exam must occurr within half a year (and not within an entire year, which is normally the case) – therefore, by the end of May 2012 at the latest.

Certificates issued in connection with the GDS exam will maintain their validity and will continue to serve as written proof, along with the new Goethe-Zertifikat C2: GDS, for admission to universities.
