Remarks by Director Anja Kofmel: "It is a great honor be the recipient of this award for 'Chris the Swiss.' Awards raise the visibility of a film, bring it to a wider audience, are invaluable in spreading the word. The fact that this extremely personal story has touched so many hearts validates the journey that began many years ago. I started out in an attempt to answer the question of why my cousin Chris was murdered in faraway Croatia during the war. But I soon came to focus more on the impact war has on those who actively participate and the reasons as to why someone (generally a young guy) decides to join a war of his own free will. We delve into a realm where the historical dissolves into the imaginary, where the narrative of the war and its protagonists plays loosely with the truth. This is a universal theme that, if anything, is becoming more topical in the our society again. As the world stands at a crossroads as to how we should shape our future, it is my hope that 'Chris the Swiss' will lead to some people re-thinking their attitudes and making a difference today. This award will take me one step further on this road, and I therefore wish to express my utmost gratitude."
