“Träume nicht dein Leben, sondern lebe deinen Traum” (Don’t dream your life but live your dream). What sounds like a corny motto to live by has become reality for Norman Langen. In 2011, at the age of 26, he was still a geriatric nurse working with dementia. In that same year, the congenial singer enchanted the audience of Germany’s most famous TV casting show “Deutschland sucht den Superstar” and turned the studio into a huge party.

The young man from Westphalia surprised everyone with his enthusiasm for German Schlager. “To me, German Schlager are a real treasure. I think it would be a shame if this musical genre died out. People understand the lyrics and can sing along. Schlager make you happy. It’s honest music,” says Norman Langen.

After his first show on the Spanish island Mallorca, it didn’t take long until he was fully booked for 2011. “Pures Gold” (Pure Gold) was the name of his debut record, filled with popular party hits. The title song “Pures Gold” reached number 11 on the single charts. Germany was looking for its very own superstar, and with Norman Langen, the country found its “Schlagerstar.”
