In the Fall of 2009, the Goethe-Institut San Francisco went through a major interior design renovation.
As a result, our ground floor window has become a digital-gallery: the 14 meter long, 3.5 meter high, concave, recessed wall that is visible from the Bush Street entrance will be projected with contemporary digital artwork during the darker daylight hours as well as throughout the night.
In addition to the gallery, the space is occupied by the Goethe-Institut colleagues who manage the German as a Foreign Language programs on the West Coast, as well as the DAAD (German Academic Exchange Service) office. Further back we have seminar and classrooms along with an auditorium where films are shown.
The second floor was also renovated. Here you’ll find the reception desk, administrative offices, more classrooms and the language department offices – as well as a newly established photo gallery where current work from German artists is shown.

Come see the changes for yourself. View the exhibits and meet our team!
