This symposium commences with a presentation by Ping Chong, one of the foremost practitioners of documentary theater in the United States, and an internationally acclaimed director, playwright, video installation artist and pioneer in the use of media in the theater, along with two of his collaborators from Ping Chong + Company. Ping Chong + Company was founded in 1975 to create and tour innovative works of theater and art that explore the intersection of race, history, culture and technology in the modern world.
The day will continue with staged readings of Worst Case by Kathrin Röggla (Austria) and a small small world by Germans Konradin Kunze and Sophia Stepf, with contributions from Abhishek Majumdar (India).
Additionally, Artistic Director Michael Dove, Forum Theatre and Taffety Punk Theatre Company will perform pieces inspired by the content presented at the symposium. A panel discussion entitled "Documentary Theater: Creative Approaches" will wrap up the afternoon session.
The evening will feature a Staged Reading of Milo Rau’s Hate Radio, followed by the panel discussion "Documentary Theater: Implications for Policy and Post-Conflict Reconciliation", moderated by Cynthia Schneider.
