Journalist Richard Bartholdt, editor of the St. Louis Tribune, was prominent in the national German-American community and an influential Member of Congress. He was born in 1855 and grew up in the eastern German town of Schleiz, Thuringia, which was very proud of its native son. His "Geburtshaus" on the Badergasse was decorated with a plaque (visible in these photos), which "fell" from the arms of a construction worker during the GDR period. |
