#1. Media Technician (full-time)
 
The Goethe-Institut Washington, the German cultural institute, represents and teaches the culture and language of Germany as a member nation of the European Union, in close cooperation with other European cultural institutes. The Institut, located at 812 7th St. NW near the Gallery Place/Chinatown Metro station, is equipped with a state-of-the-art movie theater and a multi-purpose gallery, featuring changing art exhibitions by various international artists.
 
The Goethe-Institut is seeking a media technician who has extensive knowledge of all current media technologies (see below). The applicant will be responsible for the technical aspects of all events, e.g. movie screenings, presentations, and discussion panels.

The ideal candidate must have an open personality, an intercultural mindset, and excellent customer service skills. The ideal candidate should also feel comfortable carrying heavy objects up and down three flights of stairs.

 
Language Skills:
The individual must fluently speak and read English. Knowledge of the German language and/or willingness to learn the language is desired.
 
Work Permit:
The applicant must hold a valid US work permit.
 

Duties and responsibilities:
 
Event Support:
  • Technical responsibility for theater/gallery events, from start to finish
  • Flexible schedule
  • Maintaining and increasing current and future client satisfaction
  • Marketing the rental space to prospective clients
  • Setup and tear-down for events (chairs, tables, technology)
  • Scheduling external media technicians and overtime HVAC as needed
  • Pick up shipments at the airport or other locations

 Media Technology:
  • Operation, Setup, Programming of the following:
  • Christie CP 2000-M Digital Cinema Projector
  • Dolby DSS 200 Digital Cinema Server
  • Digital players (DVD, DVcam, BETAcam, HDcam) and VHS
  • Scaler/switcher (EXTRON 422, BARCO ACS2048)
  • SANYO PLV-WF20 Projector
  • 35mm, 16mm Prints & Projection:
  • KINOTON
  • Basic print inspection & maintenance
  • Slicing & repairing
  • Cue marking
  • Operation & reel switchover
  • Rewinding & packaging
  • Knowledge of aspect ratios & lenses:
  • Frame rate adjustment
  • NTSC/PAL
  • Stage Lighting & Audio:
  • Dolby CP650 Cinema Processor
  • Basic audio mixing (Mackie)
  • Wired/Wireless mics (Shure)
  • Stage Lighting
  • A/V signal replication using USTREAM.tv
  • Software:
  • PC/Mac
  • A/V Software
  • MS Office Suite
  • Audacity, Handbreak, VirtualDUB
  • Skype Professional

Facility Maintenance / Minor Handwork:
  • Identifying issues in the building:
  • Conducting minor repairs (paint touch-up, basic soldering, etc.)
  • A/V cable pulling, preparation and maintenance
  • Negotiating and coordinating with maintenance vendors

Office Equipment:
  • First level troubleshooting & support:
  • Printers/Copiers (HP, CANON)
  • FAX machine/Phone system (PANASONIC)
  • SmartBoard
