The development of the indefinable “Viennasong” (Wienerlied), a style of Viennese folk song, is presented in this documentary exploring the cultural function of and impacts on this form of music. Wienerlieder had their heyday in Vienna from the late 1800s through the 1930s, and were characterized by being songs about Vienna sung in the Viennese dialect. The passion musicians show for the Wienerlied today and reinterpretations by younger generations keep this humorous, down-to-earth form alive.

Karin Berger engages in film and print projects mainly focusing on Austrian contemporary history. One of her key film projects is Ceija Stojka, based on collaboration with a Romany of the same name.
