"Green Pack", Goethe-Institut Almaty

The Glacier Music project includes programs for children and adolescents. These programs combine fun and education as they are equally based on explanations of glacier melting and on the sensual experience of music, graphic, video and sound. In summer and fall 2013, an exhibition will travel Central Asian schools describing the relevance of the problem of regional glacier melting. The project also sponsored a Glacier-Edition of the renowned Green Pack for schools in Kazakhstan and Kirgizstan.

An international and interdisciplinary working group under the leadership of the Regional Environmental Center for Central Asia (CAREC) developed the glacier module of the Green Pack in three working sessions from November 2012 till April 2013. The working group developed texts for students and teacher manuals; it also collected a vast amount of pictures and documents that complement the texts. The work of the group was financially supported by the Goethe Institut and the German Ministry of Environment.

The Goethe Institut lead the work of the chapters „mountains and culture“ and „glacers, climate and arts“. Among others, the team recorded local tales and legends, prepared cartoons, and contributed pictures of international and local pieces of art work.
