During the May/June Festival in Central Asia, the Glacier Music Project presents the works of the Open Call and the Design Challenge.

The Open Call was issued in September 2012 to encourage regional artists to take the sounds of the melting Tujuksu glacier as inspiration for their artistic work. Out of the submissions, an international jury shortlisted a dozen works for further elaboration. The artistic director of the project, the Berlin-based video artist Lillevan, traveled to Central Asia in April 2013 to hold workshops with the artists to discuss the realization of the most promising works. The results of this process will be presented at the occasion of the Festival in the context of the Glacier Music exhibition. The winners will be announced at the Festival’s closing.

In parallel, the Berlin branch of the German Institute of Design issued a Design Challenge for students that were asked to find graphic and illustrative ways to communicate the issue of climate change and melting glaciers to young adults in Central Asia. The Challenge resulted into a submission of three dozens posters and infographs. The winning works will form part of the exhibition and the Festival. The winners are invited to participate in the closing of the Festival in Tashkent.
