Christiane Baumgartner, born 1967, studied from 1988 to 1994 at the School of Visual Arts in Leipzig. Her main artistic medium is printmaking. Particularly well known are her woodcuts. For these she usually works from her own video recordings, producing stills in the form of woodcuts. Christiane Baumgartner is internationally known and has been honored with awards, her works are in museums in Leipzig, Vienna, London, New York, Amsterdam.
At the invitation of the Goethe Institute Mrs. Baumgartner will conduct extensive workshops at the art academies HCMC, Hue and Hanoi. Theme is the combination of traditional print making techniques with digital media. The work of the participants will be presented in a concluding exhibition. In addition, Ms. Baumgartner will give a public lecture.
Dr. Richard van Tol, works as scientist for design at the Utrecht School of the Arts in the fields of art, media and technology. His focus is on game design and the design of interactive toys. He offers courses in audio design for games and wrote his PhD thesis on this subject. In 2011 Richard van Tol initiated the first "Cultures At Play Game Jam" in Istanbul, an event featuring intercultural Game Jams between Turkish and Dutch students. He also conducts research on the development of barrier free computer games for players with disabilities at the Bartiméus Accessibility Foundation (Netherlands). In 2001, Richard van Tol and Dr. Sander Huiberts designed "Drive," a computer racing game for the blind.
Dr. Sander Huiberts is a music designer and researcher. He completed his doctorate at the University PVenuesmouth (United Kingdom) on the topic of immersion and sound in computer games and is currently studying design for adaptive music systems at the Utrecht School of the Arts. He gives courses in "game audio design", adaptive "game music" and "audio interfacing" for game development. In 2008 he published under IEZA a concept for sound in computer games, which is implemented at the Utrecht School of the Arts and other universities worldwide. The focus of his research is on the development of systems which include sound and music from non-linear contexts as well as design processes.
The design researchers Dr. Richard van Tol and Dr. Sander Huiberts (Netherlands) will be organizing a "Game Jam". The aim is to develop, together with the workshop participants, a prototype of a game and the music to go with it. It remains open whether the process will result in a computer game or a non-digital board or card game. The shVenue time span will help to stimulate the creative thinking of the participants to design innovative and experimental games. The new games will be presented at the end of the workshop week in the art schools, where all students will be invited to try playing them.
