Publishers Invitation Programme to the Cape Town Book Fair 2012

The Goethe-Institut, in co-operation with the Cape Town Book Fair and the African Publishers‘ Network (APNET), is once again offering a publishers invitation programme to the Cape Town Book Fair (15 – 17 June 2012).The aim of this initiative is to support the participation of publishing houses from sub-Saharan African countries at the Cape Town Book Fair and to provide training and networking opportunities for publishers from this region. This year, the International Publishers’ Congress will take place in Cape Town as well, just ahead of the Book Fair, between 12 and 14 June 2012. This provides a very special opportunity for professional exchange in a global context.
Up to 10 publishers will be selected for the invitation programme; the invited publishing houses will present their publications at an African Collective Stand at the Book Fair.
The grant comprises of travel costs to Cape Town, participation in a workshop on 14 June 2012, a stand at the Cape Town Book Fair and accommodation & daily allowance during the workshop and the Book Fair (13 – 18 June 2012). Costs for the transportation of books and other materials to be exhibited as well as costs related to the participation in the International Publishers’ Congress are not covered.
All independent publishing houses from sub-Saharan Africa (except South Africa) may apply for the grant. Priority will be given to smaller and innovative publishing houses with a range of publications that are of interest to the South African, as well as to the African book market. Publishers producing mainly text books will not be considered. Publishers who have not yet participated in the Cape Town Book Fair will be given precedence. The grant is restricted to one person per publishing house and is not transferable to a fellow employee.
Please note that the language of communication during the fair is English, which means that a good command of the English language is an essential requirement for each participant. For selected participants it is mandatory to participate during the entire period covered by the invitation programme (14 – 17 June 2012).
Interested publishers complying with the requirements stipulated above may apply until latest 17 March 2012. Applications received after the deadline will not be considered.
