ASAIB was founded in 1994 by a group of South African librarians and information scientists who share interests in the professional fields of indexing and bibliographing.

COSALC - Coalition of South African Library Consortia

FRELICO - Free State Libraries and Information Consortium
FRELICO was founded in 1996 as a consortium of libraries in the Province of the Orange Free State and has four members, i.e. the University of the Free State, the Central University of Technology, the Mangaung Local Municipality Library Service and the Sasol Library.
LIASA - Library and Information Association of South Africa
LIASA is the most important library association in South Africa as it represents all different types of libraries. Institutions as well as individuals are members. LIASA has ten branches. The association publishes the South African Journal of Libraries and Information Science as well as a newsletter. It also keeps a mailing list.
OSALL - Organisation of South African Law Libraries

The association of librarians in jurisprudence libraries of South Africa publishes a newsletter and keeps a mailing list of its members.
SASA – South African Society of Archivists

SASA is the association of South African archivists founded in 1960. It publishes the SASA Journal as well as a newsletter and keeps a mailing list.
SLIS - Special Libraries and Information Services Group

This group of librarians and information specialists in special libraries was founded in 1947 and has more than 300 institutional and individual members. The SLIS newsletter is published bi-annually.
