Almost 80% of houses in the affluent suburbs of Johannesburg are linked to a private alarm system. Private security companies employ 3 times the amount of personnel as the state run security system does.
Johannesburg provides one of the clearest and most obvious examples of the privatisation of security world wide.
We look at privatisation of security in South Africa through a wide range of events such as; multi-media, art forms and an international conference amongst others. Artists from South Africa and Germany have joined forces to create compelling art works which encapsulate this shocking societal phenomenon in South Africa.
