The artist who paints his artwork directly on the museum wall knows that it will disappear again. After the exhibition, the wall will be freshly plastered and whitewashed to make room for the next exhibits.
For their current exhibitions, the Bielefeld Kunsthalle and the Baden-Baden Kunsthalle have partly stripped away the plaster, reconstructed hidden murals and commissioned new ones.
In Baden-Baden, it is works by, for instance, Blinky Palermo and Helmut Middendorf that slumber under the plaster and have now been brought to light in the exhibition Auf Zeit – Was hinter dem Putz steckt (For the Time Being: Hidden behind Plaster). In addition, the artist Franz Ackermann, who teaches at the Karlsruhe Art Academy, and the Danish painter Malene Landgreen have designed new murals. And the American artist Liz Larner has given the walls of the Baden-Baden museum the hard treatment – with the steel ball of her Corner Basher.
Catalogues of the exhibition at Baden-Baden and Bielefeld will be published by Verlag der Buchhandlung Walther König.
