“Gerhard Richter. Strips and Glass”
Albertinum, Dresden
Using a computerized procedure, Gerhard Richter produces metre-long strip pictures. They can be seen at the current exhibition at the Albertinum in Dresden. In addition to works from the strip series, on display are also glass works, including the object Kartenhaus (i.e., House of Cards) and large format reverse glass paintings. Through its vistas, mirrorings and reflections, Kartenhaus enables a more complex view of the other exhibited works. Richter’s reverse glass paintings show the result of observed and planned accident. Richter left the applied gloss paint to its own devices, let the colours mingle and blend into each other, and then covered them with a pane of glass.
