“Kateřina Šedá: at sixes and sevens”

What happens when six young people get in touch with an artist and ask her help in changing the look of their small town in the Czech Republic? This question is answered by the exhibition at sixes and sevens by Kateřina Šedá at the Gallery for Contemporary Art in Leipzig.

In 2011 one of the young people got in touch with the Czech artist Kateřina Šedá so as to change, together with her and five friends, perception of their hometown of Zastávka, near Brno. They developed for the project an interactive, walk-in likeness of the town. As the basis for the installation, they used mainly individual and characteristic findings from field research, which Šedá undertook with the young people.

The focus of Šedá’s work is the possibility of changing everyday life and developing alternatives. Starting with her immediate environment, Šedá, who was born in Brno in 1977, works with perception and social interaction. The exhibition’s title, at sixes and sevens, implies chaos and disorder and the concomitant potential of a process of undetermined development.
