Directly across from the MMK Museum of Modern Art in Frankfurt, the MMK Zollamt runs an exhibition space where young artists can present their work to the public – and now so too the graduates of the Städel School in 2013. Under the title Say my name, say my name, they are already announcing what they plan to do after graduation: make names for themselves.
The students from the classes of Douglas Gordon, Judith Hopf, Michael Krebber, Christa Näher, Simon Starling, Willem de Rooij and Simon Starling are represented in the exhibition by their paintings, sculptures, installations, performances and video works. The director of the Städel School, Nikolaus Hirsch, is convinced that they can thus draw attention to themselves. The exhibited works, he says, are of high quality and the step from the academy to the museum marks the change from art student to artist.
