Curatorial Statement
For me personally, curatorial work is about the visualisation of works of art in an exhibition. Regardless of whether it is a monographic-, group-, or thematic exhibition. No matter how extensive the exhibition is and whether it is about contemporary art, Christian altars, or sneakers. The visual nature of the exhibition plays an important role in not only communicating to the viewer on a cognitive, but also on a sensual level. However, the staging of an exhibition is not an end in itself. The presentation is purely functional and serves to bring the individual works of art or exhibits together in such a way that their impact is maximized and their reception made easier. When viewers see an exhibition they take in everything, not just the works of art. That is why the task of a curator always involves fine-tuning the details. These things mean more to me than a mere academic justification for the organisation of the exhibits.
