Pia Müller-Tamm

Biographical Information

Prof. Dr Pia Müller-Tamm, born in 1957 in Ludwigshafen, is the director of Staatliche Kunsthalle Karlsruhe.

Having completed her degree in art history in Würzburg and Bonn, Müller-Tamm obtained her doctorate with a dissertation, supervised by Werner Busch, on an art-theoretical topic related to the Goethe era. After gaining practical experience in two New York art museums among others, in 1989 she secured a contract from the Getty Foundation to work at the Kunsthalle Mannheim. From 1991 to 1995 she was a curator in the Graphics collection and the Department of prints and drawings (‘Kupferstichkabinett’) of the Kunsthalle Mannheim. In 1995 she moved to an academic position in the exhibitions department of the Kunstsammlung Nordrhein-Westfalen in Düsseldorf. From 2001 to March 2009 she was the academic director of K20 Kunstsammlung Nordrhein-Westfalen.
