Veronika Olbrich

Biographical Information

Veronika Olbrich, born in 1963 in Helmstedt, is the director of Städtische Galerie Nordhorn since November 2008.

Veronika Olbrich studied sociology and social psychology at the University of Hanover, with a particular focus on psychoanalysis and sociology of art. She wrote her dissertation on 'The art gallery as a contemporary medium of communication and mediation', in which she explored the creation of social concepts of art through forms of art communication in commercial and non-commercial institutions. She subsequently trained as an educational consultant in the areas of economics and administration, and worked in the field of staff development for Volkswagen in Wolfsburg.

Olbrich came to the Kunstverein Langenhagen in November 1993, initially working in an organizational capacity. From 1998 to 2004 she held the combined post of chair, director and curator of the Kunstverein, and from 2004 to 2008 she continued as director and curator.

With solo and group exhibitions Veronika Olbrich has demonstrated a keen awareness of current issues and innovative trends within contemporary art. Her particular areas of interest and research are the reception and communication of contemporary art.
