FLURRY OF FLAKES

According to legend, Peter Kölln, founder of the Kölln oat company, travelled to Munich at the beginning of the last century. He liked the blue and white lozenge pattern of the Bavarian flag so much that he wanted to sell his oats from Elmshorn in blue-and-white packages, too. But BMW had got there first and was already using the blue-and-white lozenges in its logo. So instead, Peter Kölln took a combination of dark blue and light blue. The packaging looks much more attractive than the content, at any rate when it has been made into porridge.
