The winners have been chosen!
A total of 335 treatments were submitted in the eleven countries that participated in the competition. The juries in the respective countries chose 33 projects for funding and gave prizes to 19 films. The prize money was € 2,000 for the first and € 1,000 for the second prize.
The winning filmmakers were given their awards at the Interfilm Short Film Festival in Berlin, where also the films that won the first prizes had their official premiere.
The films range from fiction and documentaries to animations and treat the topic of “Crossing Boundaries” in very different ways. Some films look back on the events of 1939 and 1989, examining the social and individual consequences of these historical boundary crossings. Others use the topic as a metaphor and look at the limits of human communication.
All winning films from the competition are released in a DVD package, subtitled into German, English and Russian and accompanied by a trilingual booklet. This DVD package is available to the Goethe Instituts outside of Germany, film festivals as well as social and political institutions for non-commercial screenings from November 2009.
