Caligari Filmpreis

Awarded annually since 1986 on the occasion of the Berlin Film Festival by the German Federal Association for Municipal Cinema in recognition of "an innovative film in terms of style and content on the programme of the International Forum of New Cinema." The association, film-dienst magazine and the TV broadcaster 3sat fund a €4000 cash prize with the award.

Deutscher Kamerapreis

Awarded in Cologne since 1982, originally every two years, and annually since 2000, in recognition of "outstanding achievements in film and television productions." Since 1986, one prize has been awarded in each of the categories "feature film editing" and "documentary editing." Two special awards are also granted to foster young talent.

Ernst-Lubitsch-Preis

Awarded annually to German directors and actors since 1957 (at the suggestion of Billy Wilder) by the Berlin Film Journalists’ Club in recognition of “the best individual performance in a German-language film comedy.”

Film of the Month

Since 1951 the Gemeinschaftswerk der Evangelischen Publizistik (Protestant Association for Media Communication) in Frankfurt has granted this award to feature films that "foster human coexistence, prompt viewers to re-assess their own attitudes, and foster an awareness of our responsibility for our fellow human beings and the orientation towards biblical teachings."

City of Munich Film Awards – Starter Award

Each year the Cultural Office of the city of Munich grants three awards, each with a €6000 cash prize, to encourage young filmmakers. They are awarded in the categories "feature film," "documentary film" and "experimental film" (including films for children and teens), and are based on nominations by a jury of film professionals and city council members.

Goldene Leinwand ('Golden Screen')

Established in 1964 by the Association of German Film Theatres (HDF) and the journal Filmecho/filmwoche. It is awarded to “German and foreign films with total attendance of 3 million or more within the first 18 months of their premiere or release."

Konrad-Wolf-Preis

Named after film director Konrad Wolf (1925–1982), the long-standing president of the GDR Academy of the Arts. The award recognises “outstanding artistic achievements in the areas of representative arts and film and media arts.” It is endowed with a €5000 cash payment.

Preis der deutschen Filmkritik

Awarded by the German Film Critics’ Association (formerly the Working Cooperative of Film Journalists) since the mid-1950s (with interruptions). It has an eventful history, and has generally been awarded to the outstanding films and directors of the year. Current principal categories: best film, best actor, best debut (selected through a survey of all members). Awards are also granted for: documentaries, cinematography, music, script, editing, short films and experimental films.

William Dieterle Film Prize of the city of Ludwigshafen

Created in 1993 on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the birth of the director William Dieterle and awarded four times since then. Winners also receive a cash prize of €7500. It is intended "to reward filmmakers in the German-speaking countries for outstanding cinematic achievements in works addressing cultural and social issues."

Wolfgang Staudte Filmpreis

Granted by the Gesellschaft zur Wahrnehmung von Film- und Fernsehrechten (Company for Asserting Film and Television Rights). The prize is awarded annually for a first or second film on the programme of the International Forum of New Cinema. It is endowed with a €10,000 cash payment.
