Wiesbaden: Eastern Europe
goEast - Festival of Central and Eastern European Film
This festival takes place in Wiesbaden, and was founded in 2001 by the Deutsches Filminstitut and its head, Claudia Dillmann. It invites the audience to "rediscover the culture of our eastern neighbours or get to know it better"."The concept of the festival is to offer diverse insights into the changing cultural, political and social situation in Central and Eastern Europe."
The competition includes (full-length) features and documentaries from central and eastern Europe. An international jury awards prizes for the best feature film and documentary and the best director.
Other sections: the students' section (with a competition for short films), "Highlights" (films that met with success in their home countries and at festivals), and special programmes. Participants are also invited to take part in the symposium, where current issues are discussed.
The festival is hosted by the Deutsches Filminstitut.
Head of the festival: Christine Köpf.
Date: April
