A number of film festivals are dedicated to special themes, for instance eastern European films (Cottbus), Nordic films (Lübeck), French, Spanish and Latin American films (Tübingen), documentaries (Munich), animations (Dresden and Stuttgart), media art (Osnabrück) and children's films (Frankfurt, Gera).
Many festivals offer their own children's programmes.
