Wham! Bang! Boing! On Script in Comics

Comics do not consist of just drawings, but of script as well. Whether onomatopoeic vocabulary such as wham, bang, boing, or letters in a speech balloon – only the combination of image and text create the overall impression. In its current issue (No. 17), the international magazine Slanted examines the typographic features specific to comics.
The large-format issue presents individual projects and texts on script in graphic literature; presenting, for instance, the New York illustrators Nora Krug and Paul Hoppe, the Berlin graphic artist Alexander Negrelli, the Antwerp professor of typography Fred Smijers and the Reprodukt publisher and hand letterer Dirk Rehm.Rieke Harmsen
