Suhrkamp Verlag has now launched a graphic novel series. The first volume is by Nicolas Mahler and is an adaptation of the novel Old Masters (Alte Meister) by Thomas Bernhard.

In the future, Suhrkamp classics will appear as comics – among them authors such as Hermann Hesse and Samuel Beckett, but also works by contemporary authors such as Alexander Kluge and Marcel Beyer.

The artists are selected in consultation with the comic expert and editor of the Frankfurter Allgemeinen Zeitung (FAZ) Andreas Platthaus. The next volume will be a comic adaptation of Marcel Beyer’s novel Flughunde (i.e. fruit bats). Ulli Lust will do the illustrations.
