Reinhard Kleist
  • born in 1970 in Hürth, near Cologne
  • studied at the Fachhochschule für Grafik und Design in Münster
  • 1996 move to Berlin
  • 1998 four-month stay in New York
  • 2008 one-month stay in Havana/Cuba, a travel diary emerges
  • 2010 birth of daughter Romy
  • 2010 winner of the City of Munich’s contest Kunst am Bau (i.e. art in architecture) to benefit the Michaeli Gymnasium (academic high school). Completed in 2012
  • 2010-2012 comic seminar instructorship in Erlangen, lives and works in Berlin as a free-lance comic artist

Awards and prizes:

  • 1996, Max-und-Moritz prize for the best German-language comic publication
  • 2007 Munich Comic Award Peng, for Cash as best German comic
  • 2008 Max and Moritz Award for Cash as best German album
  • 2008 ICOM Award for The secrets of Coney Island for best artwork
  • 2009 Les prix des Ados at the Deauville Literary Festival for Cash - Une vie, the French edition of his Cash comic 2010 Cash nominated for the Eisner Award and Harvey Award
  • 2013 B.Z. Cultural Award for outstanding artistic achievement
