Biography Nicolas Mahler

  • Born in Vienna in 1969
  • 2003, founded the ‘Kabinett für Wort und Bild’ (‘Cabinet of Word and Image’) with Rudi Klein and Heinz Wolf in Vienna’s museum quarter
  • Work for Austrian, German and Swiss newspapers and magazines including the satiric magazine Titanic and the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung, as well as non-fiction illustration
  • Comics adapted as radio plays, puppet shows and cartoons; many works translated into other languages
  • Lives and works in Vienna

Awards and Prizes:

  • 2006 Max and Moritz Award of the Comic Salon Erlangen for best German-language comic: Das Unbehagen
  • 2007 Deutscher Karikaturenpreis (German Cartoons award) of the Sächsische Zeitung, “Geflügelter Bleistift in Silber” (i.e. winged pencil, silver), motto: “Nach uns die Sintflut” (i.e. après nous le déluge)
  • 2008 Max-und-Moritz-Preis for best comic strip: Flaschko – Der Mann in der Heizdecke (i.e. … the man in the electric blanket)
  • 2010 Max-und-Moritz-Preis as best German-language comic artist
