Wulf Harder

Born on 17th March 1926 in Lyck in East Prussia

1943 - 1945

Military service with the marines and on board ‘Admiral Scheer’

 

1946 - 1950

Studies Philosophy, English and Literature at the University of Hamburg

 

1948 - 1950

Internship with the English occupying forces newspaper Die Welt  in Hamburg, later becoming news editor and subsequently features editor

 

1951

Works as a freelance writer

 

1952

Joins Gruppe 47 (post-war German literary association)


1960

Member of the Free Academy of the Arts in Hamburg

 

1961

East Prussia Literature Prize; Literature Prize of the Free Port of Hamburg

 

1965

Active in the Social Democratic pressure from the electorate

 

1966

Arts Prize for Literature from the federal state of North Rhine-Westphalia; Hamburg Readers’ Prize


1968 - 1969

Lecture trips to Australia and the USA


1970

Travels along with Günter Grass at the invitation of Willy Brandt to the signing of the Warsaw treaty between Germany and Poland
