Kurt Bertrams
To this City
Thanks to certain circumstances
I’m a Bonner.
Don’t pity me, I’m no goner,
it’s good to be a Bonner.
In spite of fatigue, rain,
mental upsets, midges
and the ever closed pedestrian bridges.
The troubles of my last cell
will disappear one day.
But I hope I’ll find another
without too much delay.
For all the ups and downs
are often what kindles love,
and the city fathers
work themselves ragged
so my love doesn’t flag.
This could be discussed a lot,
but could also lead to losing the plot.
I don’t want to distract us,
I’d rather say it short and sweet:
Bonn is petit, if not petite.
Bonn is a girlfriend, starting to fill out,
but a glance at her pleated skirt
and you quickly realize
that an increase in size
and her skirt will burst.
That rather embarrasses the belle,
but it’s nothing on which to dwell.
I simply love
this charming town
even now the pleats
are gone from her gown.
