Martina Dierks was born in East Berlin in 1953, and moved to the west with her parents in 1961. She worked part-time as a cemetery gardener, nurse's aid, and on the production line in a chocolate factory. Having completed her training as a bilingual secretary, she sat the high school exam for gifted students and began a degree in German and Slavonic studies. Writing was a passion from an early age, at first short prose pieces and later poetry. As well as writing numerous books for children and teens, she is also involved in the children's radio program "Ohrenbär." Martina Dierks lives in Berlin with her family.
