
The first volume of his Sams stories, "Eine Woche voller Samstage", was published in 1973 and made him a well-known writer. Since then Paul Maar has published more than 40 books that have received many awards and have been translated into more than 15 languages. For his complete works he received the Grand Prize of the German Academy for Literature for Children and Young Adults in 1987 and the Deutscher Jugendliteraturpreis in 1996, among other awards.
Paul Maar lives with his family in Bamberg.
