Kai Meyer was born in Lübeck, Germany, in 1969 and grew up in the Rhineland region. After completing his schooling he studied theatre arts, film and television sciences, took on an unpaid internship with a newsletter and worked for several years as an editor. During this period he wrote books in his free time. Since 1995 he has been a full-time freelance writer.
Meyer has published approximately 40 novels and also writes film scripts, radio plays and comics. His books have been translated into 17 languages. His most successful works for young readers have been the "Merle and the Flowing Queen" trilogy and the Wellenläufer trilogy.
Today he lives with his family in a small town at the edge of the Eifel region.
