The Swiss illustrator Hannes Binder was born in Zurich in 1947. After graduating from the Kunstgewerbeschule in Zurich he worked as a graphic designer in Milan and Hamburg before returning to Zurich, where he works as a freelance artist and illustrator for various publishers and such high-profile magazines as 'Der Spiegel', 'Stern' and 'Die Zeit'. He also lectures in the history of illustration at the Hochschule für Gestaltung und Kunst in Lucerne. His works have received many nominations including the Hans Christian Andersen Award in 2008.
