Philip Waechter was born in Frankfurt in 1968. The son of Friedrich Karl Waechter, who is also listed in our Children's and Young People's Literature Portal, followed in his father's footsteps and studied communication design at the University of Applied Sciences in Mainz, specialising in illustration.
His first illustrated children's book was published in 1995. Since then his diverse and plentiful output has included illustrations of texts by other authors as well as his own picture books. Philip Waechter lives and works in Frankfurt as a freelance illustrator and graphic designer. In 1999 he was one of the founding members of LABOR, a studio of writers and illustrators.
