Katrin Hoffmann was born in 1967 in Hamburg. She lives in Berlin. After studying costume design with Dirk von Bodisco in Hamburg, she has worked since 1995 as a stage and costume designer at many theatres, including Deutsches Theater in Berlin, Deutsches Schauspielhaus Hamburg, Burgtheater in Vienna, Theater Basel, Hamburg State Opera, and Bavarian State Opera in Munich.
In 1995 Hoffmann produced her first stage designs for Elke Lang at the Kampnagelfabrik and the Deutsches Schauspielhaus, both in Hamburg.

Since 1996 Hoffmann has been connected to the director and author Falk Richter by a close collaboration. Their joint production Nothing Hurts was invited to the Berlin Theatertreffen in 2000. From 2000 to 2004 she worked on several productions at the Zurich Schauspielhaus together with Richter under the general directorship of Christoph Marthaler, including in co-operation with the Salzburg Festival, Chekhov’s The Sea Gull. She created both the stage and costume designs for the premier of Fosse’s Shadow in Norway in the summer of 2006.

Since 2001 she works regularly at Schaubühne am Lehniner Platz, Berlin, her latest stage designs were for the productions of „Three Sisters“ in 2007 and „The Cherry Orchard“ in 2008, both by Chekhov, directed by Falk Richter and „TRUST“ by Falk Richter in 2009.

Apart of these works she collaborated with several directors like Nicolas Stemann, Sandra Strunz and Christian Schlüter.
