- Theatre education sessions for schools
In the area of Theatre and Schools, the theatre provides a full service, providing information, material, preparation for and a follow-up to theatre visits. Pupils taking part in the theaterstarter and enter projects, which build on each another, visit the theatre at least once a year in years 1 to four, and at least twice a year in years 5 to 8. Youngsters have ample opportunity to make theatre themselves in the five theatre clubs of the Junges Staatstheater and in the Low German Platt’n’Studio. Guided by professional drama instructors, there is space to experiment, gain experience and take part in intensive theatre work. Regular club evenings enable project groups to get to know one another and exchange ideas. The Junges Staatstheater is particularly involved in developing music theatre for children. The Junges Staatstheater’s ongoing “Children Go to the Orchestra” project is a concert format that extends the listening habits of children in the 6-11 age group, in particular sensitising them to classical and modern music.
The Junges Staatstheater is well-networked within the scene and is committed to exchange between theatre-makers of children’s and youth theatre. In 2008, Oldenburg organised the first north German festival of children’s and youth theatre, HART AM WIND, which has taken place every two years since then at different locations.
