The Landestheater Württemberg-Hohenzollern (LTT) was set up in 1950. Since the 1984/85 season, there has been a separate children’s and youth section, the Kinder- und Jugendtheater (KJT). This currently consists of 12 permanent members of staff, of whom five are actors. Temporary staff are taken on for directing, set-making and music. The theatre stages a range of productions targeted at children and young people of all ages, from plays for four-year-olds to performances for young people aged 15 and above. There are usually as many as 300 performances each season, mainly in Tübingen and Reutlingen, but also at other venues throughout Baden-Württemberg as well as in other parts of Germany and abroad. Focal areas of this theatre’s work and repertoire are discovering new texts for the German theatre scene, play developments and premieres, narrative plays, musical productions, mobile performances and experimentation with special forms of drama, such as dance theatre, figure and object theatre.

The focus of the KJT’s theatre education work is on “Getting Involved in Drama“. The annual production performed by the LTT’s theatre youth club, the tjc, is a fixed date in the calendar and is included in the theatre’s repertoire. Artistically demanding projects are developed with pupils in the cooperating schools. During the school theatre days, which take place every two years, these projects come together, giving school theatre new impetus.
