The Thalia Theater Halle was set up on 11 October 1952 as a children’s and youth theatre and was then called the “Theater der jungen Garde”. In 1990, it was renamed the Thalia Theater Halle. Since 2009, the Thalia Theater has been part of the Theater, Oper und Orchester GmbH Halle.

The Thalia Theater Halle for children, young people and adults is a theatre between tradition and experiment. The programme covers a repertoire ranging from classic works to contemporary international plays. Productions made together with children and young people are also an established part of the programme. On various occasions, the Thalia Theater goes to unusual venues in Halle with both specific individual productions and major projects and festivals, such as the week of contemporary French drama in the spring and the Kinderstadt, which takes place in the summer every two years.

The Thalia Theater is also represented in a multitude of cooperations and special projects in Germany and abroad, for example the cooperation project with the French Théâtre de la Tête Noire in Saran, “Grenzgänger/OUTREPASSEURS” in 2010, which was funded by the German Federal Cultural Foundation’s Wanderlust Fund for International Theatre Partnerships.
