The tjg. theater junge generation in Dresden, with its three sections tjg. schauspiel, tjg. puppentheater and tjg. Theaterakademie, is one of Germany’s largest children’s and youth theatres. Myths and fairy tales as well as adaptations of classics of world literature are on the theatre’s programme alongside productions of socially-relevant contemporary material. tjg. is one of Germany’s leading institutions in the field of early education with its “Theater von Anfang an” activities (“Theatre from the Beginning” for children from the age of 2) and the progressive work of the tjg. theaterakademie. Back in 2008, the theatre hosted the highly successful first German festival of “Theater für die Allerkleinsten” (theatre for tiny tots). The theatre also cultivates close partnerships at international level with 13 European theatres in the “Platform 11+“ project. During the 2010/2011 season, more than 75,000 theatregoers attended the tjg.’s nearly 600 performances, and another 10,000 people attended workshops, family days, theatre festivals and events organised by the tjg.förderverein (Friends of tjg).
